Mortal combat is hardly a NES title. It was released for that console but wasn't Nintendo work. One of the Ninja Gaiden themes would suit better for a Ninja jumping out of nowhere. Just add slashing someone, throwing some shurikens and die off something cheap like a bat or dog and here you go: Ninja Gaiden.
